This garden transformation was designed to preserve a large, open lawn space while creating zones that encourage wildlife and introduce color and interest throughout the seasons. The clients wanted a space that felt natural yet elegant, allowing them to enjoy both the openness of the lawn and more intimate areas that bring in a sense of calm.
At the far end of the garden, a tranquil seating area was created to catch the evening sun, making it an ideal spot for relaxation. This seating area overlooks a wildlife pond, an inviting habitat for birds, insects, and other local fauna. Surrounding the pond, Japanese-inspired plants like bamboos, acers, and ornamental grasses create a serene atmosphere, adding texture and subtle colour to the space.
A large, richly planted border stretches along the entire length of the garden, filling it with vibrant flowers and foliage that evolve with the seasons, keeping the view lively and dynamic year-round. The planting palette was selected to provide pops of colour and visual interest in both spring and summer, with evergreens and textured grasses maintaining interest through autumn and winter.
Closer to the home, raised planted beds softly divide the patio from the lawn area, giving a feeling of enclosure and intimacy to the patio while still allowing views of the lawn. The beds are filled with a calming mix of plants in simple, neutral colours, creating a subtle yet cohesive connection between the patio and the rest of the garden.
A block-paved path leads down the center of the garden, bordered on each side by the same calming plants, guiding visitors gently through the garden’s natural beauty. Along the boundary, multi-stem silver birch trees and tall, feathery grasses add height and privacy, blending effortlessly with the meadow beyond to create a seamless transition between the garden and the landscape.
The result is a peaceful outdoor space that not only serves as a beautiful backdrop for gatherings but also offers a variety of habitats for wildlife, seasonal interest, and a quiet sanctuary where the clients can unwind and enjoy nature.
